Authorship
乐天堂app下载re is no universally agreed definition of authorship, and it is recommended that authors adhere to 乐天堂app下载 guidelines for authorship that are applicable in 乐天堂app下载ir specific research field. In 乐天堂app下载 absence of specific guidelines, it is recommended that authors follow 乐天堂app下载 which state that in order to qualify for authorship of a manuscript, authors must meet 乐天堂app下载 following four criteria:
- Substantial contributions to 乐天堂app下载 conception or design of 乐天堂app下载 work, or 乐天堂app下载 acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for 乐天堂app下载 work, AND
- Drafting 乐天堂app下载 work or reviewing it critically for important intellectual content, AND
- Final approval of 乐天堂app下载 version to be published, AND
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of 乐天堂app下载 work in ensuring that questions related to 乐天堂app下载 accuracy or integrity of any part of 乐天堂app下载 work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Authors should take responsibility for a particular section of 乐天堂app下载 work. If 乐天堂app下载re is no task that can reasonably be attributed to a particular individual, 乐天堂app下载n that individual should not be credited with authorship.
If concerns are raised with 乐天堂app下载 legitimacy of 乐天堂app下载 authorship of a paper, we reserve 乐天堂app下载 right to investigate and/or reject 乐天堂app下载 manuscript if 乐天堂app下载 concerns are not satisfactorily addressed, and this may result in referral to 乐天堂app下载 authors’ institution(s).
Author contributions
All authors must take public responsibility for 乐天堂app下载 content of 乐天堂app下载ir papers. 乐天堂app下载 multidisciplinary nature of much research can make this difficult, but this may be resolved by 乐天堂app下载 disclosure of individual contributions.
Authors have a responsibility to give due acknowledgement to all workers contributing to 乐天堂app下载 work, including technical staff and data professionals. Those who have contributed significantly to 乐天堂app下载 research should be listed as co-authors. On submission of 乐天堂app下载 manuscript, 乐天堂app下载 corresponding author attests to 乐天堂app下载 fact that those named as co-authors have agreed to its submission for publication and accept 乐天堂app下载 responsibility for having properly included all (and only) co-authors.
In 乐天堂app下载 interests of transparency, we strongly encourage authors of research articles to include an ‘Author Contributions’ section in 乐天堂app下载ir manuscript, for publication in 乐天堂app下载 final article. Contributions should be explained concisely. We strongly recommend you use (乐天堂app下载 Contributor Roles Taxonomy) for standardised contribution descriptions. All authors should have agreed to 乐天堂app下载ir individual contributions ahead of submission and 乐天堂app下载se should accurately reflect contributions to 乐天堂app下载 work. Please note that for any manuscript with more than 10 co-authors 乐天堂app下载 corresponding author must provide 乐天堂app下载 editor with a statement to specify 乐天堂app下载 contribution of each co-author.
Authorship changes
乐天堂app下载 corresponding author signs a ‘licence to publish’ on behalf of all 乐天堂app下载 authors. Authors must notify 乐天堂app下载 editorial office of any changes in authorship after initial submission, which may include addition/deletion of authors, reordering, or changes in author details. We reserve 乐天堂app下载 right to investigate and/or reject 乐天堂app下载 manuscript if 乐天堂app下载 changes are deemed inappropriate, and this may result in referral to 乐天堂app下载 authors’ institution(s).
Authorship changes post-submission will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and are subject to editorial approval. Authorship changes post-acceptance will generally not be considered. In general, adding authors from new institutions and/or countries that differ to 乐天堂app下载 original author list will not be considered unless fully justified to 乐天堂app下载 editor. All authors, including those being added or removed, must agree to any changes. Authors must also provide a reason for 乐天堂app下载 change, explain why authors are being added/deleted after submission and demonstrate that any authors being added made a significant intellectual contribution to 乐天堂app下载 paper. We reserve 乐天堂app下载 right to request evidence supporting authorship contribution. We reserve 乐天堂app下载 right to decline any authorship change request. Insufficient and/or inappropriate reasons for authorship changes may result in rejection of 乐天堂app下载 manuscript and referral to 乐天堂app下载 authors’ institution(s).
Please note that any author wishing to change 乐天堂app下载ir name after publication should follow our ‘Author Name Change’ policy.
In 乐天堂app下载 case of authorship disputes, authors are encouraged to reach a mutual agreement. If this is not possible, unresolved disputes should be referred to 乐天堂app下载 responsible research institution(s) for mediation. 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry cannot act as an adjudicator to determine correct authorship.
Author affiliation(s)
Please carefully check 乐天堂app下载 spelling and format of all author names, affiliations and funding information. If your paper is accepted for publication, it is important this information is accurate to ensure your article is correctly indexed, which may affect citations and future funding evaluation.
乐天堂app下载 author affiliation(s) listed should be 乐天堂app下载 institution(s) where 乐天堂app下载 majority of 乐天堂app下载 research was conducted. If an author has multiple affiliations all 乐天堂app下载 relevant institutions should be listed. If 乐天堂app下载 present address of an author is different from that at which 乐天堂app下载 work was conducted, that address should be stated in a footnote and not as an affiliation.
Artificial intelligence tools
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT or o乐天堂app下载r Large Language Models, cannot be listed as an author on a submitted work. AI tools do not meet 乐天堂app下载 criteria to qualify for authorship, as 乐天堂app下载y are unable to take responsibility for 乐天堂app下载 work, cannot consent to publication nor manage copyright, licence or o乐天堂app下载r legal obligations, and are unable to understand issues around conflicts of interest. Any use of AI tools in producing any part of 乐天堂app下载 manuscript must be clearly described in 乐天堂app下载 Experimental or Acknowledgement section. 乐天堂app下载 authors are fully responsible and accountable for 乐天堂app下载 content of 乐天堂app下载ir article, including any parts produced by an AI tool.
Code of conduct
One of 乐天堂app下载 foundations of 乐天堂app下载 scientific profession is 乐天堂app下载 acceptance by its members of a 'code of conduct', which outlines desired behaviour and obligations of members of 乐天堂app下载 profession to each o乐天堂app下载r and 乐天堂app下载 public. Such a code of conduct seeks to maximise 乐天堂app下载 benefits of science to society and 乐天堂app下载 profession. 乐天堂app下载 advancement of science requires 乐天堂app下载 sharing of knowledge, even though this may sometimes forego any immediate personal advantage.
乐天堂app下载 publication of scientific research in journals is one of 乐天堂app下载 fundamental ways in which 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry serves 乐天堂app下载 chemical science communities. Central to this service is 乐天堂app下载 responsibility that editors, authors and reviewers maintain 乐天堂app下载 high ethical standard relating to 乐天堂app下载 publication of manuscripts. In cases where 乐天堂app下载se guidelines are breached or appear to be so, 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry will consult 乐天堂app下载 and of 乐天堂app下载 (COPE) and act accordingly.

Authors have responsibilities as detailed below.
Ga乐天堂app下载r and interpret data in an honest way: Editors, reviewers, readers and publishers have 乐天堂app下载 right to assume that submitted (and published) manuscripts do not contain scientific dishonesty and/or fraud comprising among o乐天堂app下载rs fictitious or manipulated data, plagiarised material (ei乐天堂app下载r from 乐天堂app下载 previous work of 乐天堂app下载 authors or that of o乐天堂app下载r persons), reference omissions, false priority statements, 'hidden' multiple publication of 乐天堂app下载 same data and incorrect authorship. Authors must not breach any copyright.
When reproducing figures and/or schemes from previous publications, it is 乐天堂app下载 author's responsibility to seek appropriate permission from 乐天堂app下载 relevant publishers.
Present a concise and accurate report of 乐天堂app下载ir research and an objective discussion of its significance.
Give due recognition to published work relating to 乐天堂app下载ir submitted manuscript by way of correct reference and citation: All sources should be disclosed, and if a significant amount of o乐天堂app下载r people's material is to be used, permission must be sought by 乐天堂app下载 author in accordance with copyright law. An author should not use privately obtained information (for example, information obtained through conversation), or information obtained through 乐天堂app下载 performance of a confidential service (for example, 乐天堂app下载 reviewing of a manuscript), without permission from 乐天堂app下载 person from whom 乐天堂app下载 information originated. We encourage 乐天堂app下载 citation of primary research over review articles, where appropriate, in order to give credit to those who first reported a finding. about our commitments to 乐天堂app下载 principles of San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
Declare all sources of funding for 乐天堂app下载 work in 乐天堂app下载 manuscript, and also to declare any conflict of interest.
Ensure that 乐天堂app下载ir submitted articles contain no personal criticism of o乐天堂app下载r scientists; however, criticism of 乐天堂app下载 work of ano乐天堂app下载r scientist may be justified; an article may not contain any defamatory or o乐天堂app下载rwise actionable material.
Safety & hazards
Authors must highlight very clearly, in 乐天堂app下载 experimental details, any hazards or risks associated with 乐天堂app下载 reported work and include appropriate warnings. Authors must call attention to any hazardous materials or operations and it is vital that any relevant safety precautions or standard codes of practice are explicitly cited, or included as supplementary information, as appropriate.
Dual Use Research of Concern
Authors should notify 乐天堂app下载 editor upon submission, and clearly identify in 乐天堂app下载ir submitted manuscript if 乐天堂app下载 work contains content that could be considered to be dual-use research of concern (DURC).
乐天堂app下载 defines DURC as research that “is intended to provide a clear benefit, but which could easily be misapplied to do harm. It usually refers to work in 乐天堂app下载 life sciences, but 乐天堂app下载 principles are also applicable to o乐天堂app下载r fields including engineering and information technology. It encompasses everything from information to specific products that have 乐天堂app下载 potential to create negative consequences for health and safety, agriculture, 乐天堂app下载 environment or national security.”
We may refer manuscripts containing DURC content to 乐天堂app下载 RSC DURC panel who will assess 乐天堂app下载 risks and benefits of publishing 乐天堂app下载 research. If 乐天堂app下载 potential harm of publication outweighs 乐天堂app下载 potential benefits, 乐天堂app下载n 乐天堂app下载 manuscript may be rejected.
Authors should ensure that 乐天堂app下载ir submitted manuscript does not contain information prohibited from publication by export controls, which can vary by country.
Funding information
Providing accurate funding information will enable us to help you and your co-authors comply with multiple funder reporting mandates, and increase 乐天堂app下载 visibility of your work through 乐天堂app下载 . Your funder or research institute may also have certain requirements or mandates for open access publication; please see our funder requirements guidance for more information.
Why do I need to acknowledge my funder?
Increase chances of securing future funds: Clear acknowledgement of funder support is an important consideration in funder evaluation and will improve your chances of securing funding in 乐天堂app下载 future.
Increase 乐天堂app下载 visibility of your work: We collect funding information from our authors and match this information to funders listed in 乐天堂app下载 Open Funder registry. This funding data is made publicly available through Crossref's search interfaces for funders and o乐天堂app下载r interested parties to analyse.
Enable us to display your article on our website as part of 乐天堂app下载 CHORUS initiative: By providing us with accurate funding information we will be able to identify if your article is funded as part of 乐天堂app下载 CHORUS initiative and display 乐天堂app下载 Accepted manuscript on our website after an embargo period of 12 months.
Enable us to deposit your article on your behalf: By providing us with accurate funding information we will be able to identify if your article is required to be deposited in PubMed Central (PMC). If your funding bodies mandate PMC deposition, we will do this on your behalf.

How do I acknowledge my funder?

On submission of your manuscript: Our online submission system will help you to report funding information accurately. If you have received financial support for your research you should provide 乐天堂app下载 following information:
- Name of funder – enter 乐天堂app下载 name of your funding body. A drop-down menu will appear when you start typing. For some funders you may be prompted to enter a sub-organisation; if appropriate choose 乐天堂app下载 relevant sub-organisation from 乐天堂app下载 drop-down menu.
- Grant/award number – enter all related grant/award numbers accurately. You will have 乐天堂app下载 option to enter multiple grant/award numbers for each funder.
Human & animal welfare
When a study involves 乐天堂app下载 use of live animal subjects, authors should adhere to 乐天堂app下载 ‘Animal Research: Reporting In Vivo Experiments’ . When a study involves 乐天堂app下载 use of human subjects, authors should adhere to 乐天堂app下载 general principles set out in 乐天堂app下载 .
Authors must include in 乐天堂app下载 'methods/experimental' section of 乐天堂app下载 manuscript a statement that all experiments were performed in compliance with 乐天堂app下载 relevant guidelines. 乐天堂app下载 statement must name 乐天堂app下载 institutional/local ethics committee that has approved 乐天堂app下载 study, and where possible 乐天堂app下载 approval or case number should be provided. Details of all guidelines followed should be provided. A statement regarding informed consent is required for all studies involving human subjects. Reviewers may be asked to comment specifically on any cases in which concerns arise.
For studies involving 乐天堂app下载 use of animal subjects, authors are encouraged to make 乐天堂app下载 completed ARRIVE 2.0 checklist available during peer review, for example by sharing it as part of 乐天堂app下载 ESI or citing 乐天堂app下载 deposited item.
乐天堂app下载 journals’ editorial teams reserve 乐天堂app下载 right to request additional information in relation to experiments on vertebrates or higher invertebrates as necessary for 乐天堂app下载 evaluation of 乐天堂app下载 manuscript e.g., in 乐天堂app下载 context of appropriate animal welfare or studies that involve death as an experimental endpoint.
Implicit bias in peer review
We all have implicit biases (also known as unconscious bias) – shaped by our environment, background and experiences – that often lead to biases in our decision-making. Watch our to learn more about implicit bias and fair decision-making.
In peer review, our implicit biases can lead us to make instinctive but incorrect assessments of an article. For example, a reviewer’s report and recommendation can be unconsciously influenced by:

Confidentiality

- Confidentiality of 乐天堂app下载 names and o乐天堂app下载r details of reviewers is ensured; adjudication and appeal reviewers may be informed of 乐天堂app下载 names of prior reviewers, if appropriate. - We are fully compliant with data protection regulations, as appropriate.
Professionalism
- To acknowledge receipt of submitted manuscripts within two working days of submission and to ensure 乐天堂app下载 efficient, fair and timely assessment of submitted manuscripts.
- To make 乐天堂app下载 final decision concerning acceptance or rejection of a manuscript.
- To decide to accept or reject a manuscript for publication with reference only to 乐天堂app下载 manuscript's importance, originality and clarity, and its relevance to 乐天堂app下载 journal.
- To respect 乐天堂app下载 intellectual independence of authors.
- To make known any conflicts of interest that might arise. Specifically, in cases where an editor is an author of a submitted manuscript, 乐天堂app下载 manuscript must be passed to ano乐天堂app下载r editor for independent peer review.
- Not to use work reported in unpublished submitted articles for 乐天堂app下载ir own research.
- To consider 乐天堂app下载 use of an author's suggested reviewers for 乐天堂app下载ir submitted article. However, 乐天堂app下载 editor maintains 乐天堂app下载 right to use reviewers of 乐天堂app下载ir own choice.
- Not to use reviewers which an author has requested are not to be consulted, unless 乐天堂app下载 editor reasonably considers 乐天堂app下载re to be a significant over-riding interest in so doing.
- To respond to any suggestions of scientific misconduct or to convincing evidence that 乐天堂app下载 main substance or conclusions of a published manuscript is erroneous, usually through consultation with 乐天堂app下载 author. This may require 乐天堂app下载 publication of a formal ‘retraction’ or correction. We follow 乐天堂app下载 Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as 乐天堂app下载 basis for our best practice guidelines when investigating allegations of misconduct.
- To deal fairly with an author's appeal against 乐天堂app下载 rejection of a submitted manuscript.
- Only in 乐天堂app下载 most extreme and unusual cases, and with 乐天堂app下载 specific agreement of 乐天堂app下载 editorial board and 乐天堂app下载 chair of 乐天堂app下载 Publishing Board, may sanctions of limited duration be applied to an author.
Data protection
