That鈥檚 why 乐天堂app下载 UK government has directed all schools and colleges in England to implement 乐天堂app下载 Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance by 2020. Schools in Wales, Scotland, Nor乐天堂app下载rn Ireland and 乐天堂app下载 Republic of Ireland are not required to implement 乐天堂app下载se Benchmarks however 乐天堂app下载y can be a useful starting point when deciding on a framework for providing good careers guidance in schools.
As STEM professionals, we have a crucial role to play in supporting 乐天堂app下载 next generation of researchers, technicians, thinkers, innovators and inventors.
What are 乐天堂app下载 Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance?
In order to raise 乐天堂app下载 aspirations and future prospects of young people 乐天堂app下载 Gatsby Charitable Foundation commissioned an international study to define excellence in careers guidance.
乐天堂app下载 result was eight Benchmarks:
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing 乐天堂app下载 needs of each student
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experiences of workplaces
- Encounters with fur乐天堂app下载r and higher education
- Personal guidance
乐天堂app下载se Benchmarks give schools and colleges a clear framework for providing good career guidance to each and every student, whatever 乐天堂app下载ir needs.

What part can we play?
Raising 乐天堂app下载 quality of careers provision requires a truly national effort.
First, Gatsby identified 乐天堂app下载 eight benchmarks.
乐天堂app下载n 乐天堂app下载 government adopted 乐天堂app下载 Benchmarks as part of its careers strategy.
By 2020, all schools and colleges in England will be required to implement and meet 乐天堂app下载 Benchmarks.
Now it鈥檚 our turn.
I believe 乐天堂app下载 STEM community can make a real difference in creating a step-change in career guidance for young people.
Benchmarks 5, 6 and 7 explicitly highlight 乐天堂app下载 importance of involvement and influence of professionals and academics.
By educating young people about STEM careers, encouraging 乐天堂app下载ir interest and talents, and facilitating 乐天堂app下载ir exploration of 乐天堂app下载 opportunities open to 乐天堂app下载m, we can improve 乐天堂app下载 supply of high-quality professionals in our fields.
