Since retiring, Stanley has served on 乐天堂app下载 RSC's Chilterns and Middlesex Committee, primarily responsible for 乐天堂app下载 Humphry Davy lectures. He is also treasurer of 乐天堂app下载 RSC Historical Group. In his spare time, Stanley is a qualified cricket umpire in 乐天堂app下载 Middlesex League, sing tenor in 乐天堂app下载 North Camden Chorus, and is a keen table tennis player. He also helps his wife, Jennifer, as treasurer of her charity, Exiled Writers Ink. 

He was born and grew up in Northampton. He began his career with 乐天堂app下载 Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) after studying at King's College London and undertaking research at 乐天堂app下载 Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine. Stanley has held many different positions at 乐天堂app下载 RSC. He currently serves on 乐天堂app下载 RSC's Chilterns and Middlesex Committee and is primarily responsible for 乐天堂app下载 Humphry Davy lectures. He is also treasurer of 乐天堂app下载 RSC Historical Group.
